Reflecting on One Year Since Kickstarter
Jul 24, 2024
It has been almost a year since we launched this knife project on Kickstarter last summer. The demand for Japanese-made knives has never been higher, driven by the boom in Japanese cuisine and increased interest in home cooking. However, in a market crowded with major brands, we have continued our challenge with the belief of creating easy-to-use Japanese knives that require no special maintenance by professionals and fit seamlessly into the daily lives of people overseas.
Although, from the launch of our Kickstarter project to today, Taski has faced countless obstacles and problems to solve. One of the keys to our progress has been our team, composed almost entirely of people with experience living abroad. This has allowed us to re-recognize the wonderful value of Japan and nurtured our pure passion to share it with the world.
Our respect for the craftsmen who are the backbone of the globally renowned "Made-in-Japan" brand, and our unwavering desire to repay them by having as many people as possible use our knives, have remained constant. This stems from our deep understanding of their hard work and dedication in the factory, which is often invisible from the outside.
Driven by the desire to contribute to the happiness of both knife makers and users, our entire team is advancing the project. Now we strongly believe that one of the outcomes of this passion is our success in the 45-day Kickstarter project, achieving approximately 400% of our initial goal and receiving support from about 100 backers worldwide.
Commitment
Taski knives are made in Seki City, Gifu Prefecture, historically renowned as one of the birthplaces of Japanese swords. Seki City, along with Sheffield in the UK and Solingen in Germany, is known as one of the world's top three cutlery production areas.
Our knives deliver the expected sharpness of Japanese-made products while being easy to maintain at home without the need for professional sharpeners, who are still relatively inaccessible overseas. We also pursue beautiful designs that you would want to display in your kitchen and proudly show to friends.
This approach counters the common perception that "the harder the knife blade, the better it cuts," by offering knives that provide a fresh and excellent cutting experience not just at the time of purchase but consistently over time.
With the fresh perspective of a young brand, we have also focused on visual impact, experimenting with various designs beyond traditional knife packaging. We aim to deliver the best experience, from the moment you open the box at home, making your heart race and wanting to use the knife immediately!
The Expanding Taski Community
From busy home chefs, knife collectors, foodies, and to professional chefs working domestically and internationally, thanks to your support, over the past year, Taski knives have been loved by a diverse group of users.
We believe that this widespread appreciation reflects our commitment to quality and the deep connection we strive to create with every knife we produce and every person we encounter.
The name “TASKI” expresses our wish to be a kitchen knife loved beyond generations, and like the tasuki (sash) in a Japanese relay race, we hope to carry on the spirit that we have nurtured together with our craftsmen.
We are deeply grateful for the past year that we have walked together with you. However, our journey has only just begun. For those of you who have yet to experience Taski's knives, we invite you to visit our website and to be part of our journey.
Thank you!
